The Home Farm
The whole of Greystoke Castle Estate, less the woodlands, is a working farm. Though traditionally some crops were grown, now the only crop is grass. This is used for the extensive (as opposed to intensive) production of beef cattle and sheep.
Very light use is made of fertilisers to kick-start the growth of the grass in springtime. Stocking rates are well below the European limit, so that everything possible is done to produce ‘green’ meat.
The farm was one of the three finalists in the recent national competition for best stock farm in the UK.
